A synthetic organic colour (dye/lake). Known as CI 19140 (Yellow 5 / Tartrazine).
CI 19140 (Yellow 5 / Tartrazine): a permitted EU cosmetic colorant (CI 19140). Many synthetic organic colorants are restricted from the eye-area and/or mucous-membrane (lip) use — confirm the specific CI's Annex IV sub-column. Tartrazine is a recognised trigger for reactions in some people (notably those with asthma or aspirin sensitivity). An azo dye that can trigger reactions in sensitive (esp. asthmatic/aspirin-sensitive) individuals.
