What it is
A citrus essential oil prized in fragrance.
A beautiful citrus note — but cold-pressed bergamot contains bergapten (a furocoumarin) that makes skin react to sunlight and can cause burns/dark patches. The EU tightly limits furocoumarins; look for 'bergapten-free' (FCF) versions. Caution in leave-on, sun-exposed products.
