Benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone)
بنزوفينون-3 (أوكسي بنزون)
UV filter (Annex VI) · INCI: Benzophenone-3
The verdict
A permitted filter, but EU-restricted and debated — newer alternatives exist.
What it is
A widely-used UV filter the EU restricted over endocrine concerns.
The EU lowered its limits (6% face, just 2.2% body) because at the old levels it wasn't considered safe given potential endocrine-disrupting properties; it's also a known photo-allergen, and there are coral-reef environmental concerns. Permitted within the new caps, but among the more debated filters — many brands have moved to newer alternatives.
