Carmine (CI 75470)
قرمزي (CI 75470)
Colorant (Annex IV) · INCI: CI 75470
The verdict
Animal-derived (insect) and a known allergen — not vegan; halal status debated.
What it is
A natural red made from crushed cochineal insects.
The vivid natural red in many lipsticks and blushes — made from cochineal insects (~155,000 insects per kilogram). Two flags worth knowing: it's a recognized allergen that can cause reactions in sensitive people, and it's animal-derived, so it's not vegan and its halal status is disputed (a notable share of halal authorities reject insect-derived colors).
