Benzalkonium Chloride

كلوريد البنزالكونيوم

Quaternary ammonium disinfectant (quat)

The verdict

Common disinfectant — fine on surfaces; ventilate sprays (asthma link).

What it is

A 'quat' disinfectant found in many wipes and antibacterial sprays.

WTF fact

The disinfectant in most antibacterial wipes and sprays. Effective at use-dilution, but it's a concentrate that's corrosive and toxic to aquatic life — and repeated spray exposure is linked to occupational asthma. Reasonable for surfaces; ventilate, and don't drench yourself daily.
